You Shouldn’t Be Ashamed of Dating Online
If you’re single, you may be thinking of finding a partner online. You may worry about what people will say, but you shouldn’t be ashamed of dating online.
Have you ever created an online profile on a dating site or downloaded a dating app? Most likely, you did it, but you may not recognize this fact. You can lie to your friends about how you met your boyfriend or how you asked for a date scheduled on your calendar for the following Saturday.
The truth is that there is nothing wrong with Internet dating. According to statistics, about 30% of the adult population aged 18 to 29 years use such apps to find the other half. Online dating is no longer a cry from the heart, or a desperate attempt to find someone at last.
There are a few reasons why you shouldn’t be ashamed of dating online.
EVERYONE DOES IT
Maybe not everyone, but many does it. It should be noted that Internet dating is definitely more common than ever.
This practice appeared several decades ago. Previously, it was believed that dating online is a last resort, that’s why they were not particularly popular. Now there are so many dating sites and apps. It’s very strange if you’re not interested in trying it out for yourself.
THERE’S A GOOD REASON
If you’d met the perfect guy in high school or college, you’d probably be married to him now. That may be exactly what happened, if you wanted it to be.
Since it didn’t happen in your case, you’re still single and still trying to find the right person. This means that there’s a good reason for Internet dating. Of course, you don’t want to spend your entire life alone. You want to meet someone and start a normal and long-term relationship.
You also don’t seem to meet any right guys your age in your daily life. Maybe there are several, and you have met with them, but to no effect. Or you’re not interested in a relationship at all.
Your friends and family may have exhausted their list of candidates that they would like to set you up with. And maybe all your dates were so bad that you wouldn’t risk meeting a new bachelor again.
If you don’t have a permanent relationship, why not meet a boyfriend online? Think about it logically, and don’t try to keep looking for love the old-fashioned way. As you can see, there are many good reasons to turn to finding a partner on the Internet.
TIMES HAVE CHANGED
Today, many people talk about dating online, how culture and society have changed over the past few decades. Previously, you got to know guys with a help of friends and relatives. Of course, it still happens sometimes, but it’s not too common.
Why don’t people get to know each other this way anymore? There are a lot of reasons for this, but in general, we can say that education and career have changed people a lot.
Nowadays, people strive for knowledge and devote a lot of time to study and work. Yes, this is great, but it means that they don’t have some time to build a relationship at all. And in this case, dating on the Internet is very convenient.
YOU’LL STAY ALONE
So, what will you do if you never meet a guy your age in your normal life? Will you just give up dating and never go on a date? No, you definitely don’t want to do this. You won’t be happy that way. And you’ll wonder why you don’t do everything you can to find love.
But the truth is, if you don’t agree to date online, you may end up without a partner. Of course, it would be great if you could meet the person you’re looking for in your daily life, for example, in a yoga class, in your favorite bar, in a bookstore, but this just might not happen.
So you should try to stay in reality instead of daydreaming and letting your imagination wander. Don’t worry about how you meet, but focus on dating and meeting new people.
IT’S NOT A BAD THING
If you’re ashamed to meet on the Internet, you should understand that there is nothing wrong with it.
You talk to some people several times a week, discuss something, decide if you want to meet them in person, set up dates and go on them. It’s really that simple. But if you think it’s bad, the problem is covered in you, not the dating site you signed up for.
Remember, it’s just a way to meet new people. If you find love, you’ll be thrilled that you have committed such an act and registered on a dating site. And if you find the love of your life there, build an excellent relationship, then you won’t care what others thought about it.
MORE PEOPLE VISIT DATING SITES THAN YOU IMAGINE
Perhaps your good friends are also single and looking for love online, and you share stories when you get together. Or maybe your close friends are in a relationship (or even married), so you feel that you can’t really be open with them about your dates online.
Even if your friends don’t meet this way, you most likely know people who do, even if they don’t tell you about it. How many times has your mom told you that her close friend’s daughter is getting married to a guy she met on a dating site?
Or you’ve noticed that someone you follow on Instagram is in love and absolutely happy. And maybe that someone met their love on a dating site. Many people meet in this way, fall in love and start new families. It works, it’s normal, and it doesn’t matter how your loved ones react to it.
SAFETY AND SUCCESS RULES
We cannot fail to mention the following important rules of dating online:
- Go offline as soon as possible. Keep text-based conversations to a minimum to see if a particular person is right for you or not.
- The first date should be held in a public place. Try to meet in a cafe, not in an expensive restaurant. This way you can avoid wasting time if the person isn’t interested.
- Finish your first date quickly. Even if you like the person, you shouldn’t invest too much emotional resources in the first meeting.
- Don’t take personally people who disappear on you after a first date. Look at such cases as a certain percentage of manufacturing defects, which is unavoidable.
- If a new friend cancels a date more than once, you should do the same. If a person doesn’t pay attention to your date, it means that he don’t respect your time.
