First Date Body Language

Don’t underestimate body language, especially on a first date. Did you know that you can get a fairly true picture of whether you will meet again from your partner’s movements and actions? We collected a few frequent nonverbal “phrases” that people share with each other, and interpreted this mysterious language.

HE GETS CLOSER TO YOU

It’s an obvious sign of sympathy. If you’re attractive to a man, then he will try to get closer to you intuitively: he will lean forward during a conversation, or he will go very close to you while walking (and, most likely, he “accidentally” touches you with his hand). It’s important that such sympathy is mutual. But if you’re not ready for such pressure yet, gently tell him about it.

HE CAN’T STOP LOOKING AT YOU

Long and meaningful glances of a man subtly hint that he likes you. If he’s not showing you his eyes and looking at a table, while nervously squeezing his hands, it’s an alarm bell. You might want to end this date earlier than you planned.

HE TOUCHES YOU AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY

This “phrase” of our body speaks for itself. If we like someone very much, we want to touch this person. Of course, don’t overdo it: don’t grab the man by the collar or arrange meaningful games with your feet under the table. Such zeal may be met with surprise and dislike. Act more subtly: lightly touch him with your hand (don’t forget to apologize coquettishly), “accidentally” put your head on his shoulder… In the case of mutual affection, such signs of attention won’t go unnoticed.

HE CAN DO ALL YOUR MOVES

In psychology, there’s a concept of “mirroring”, when we unconsciously (or specifically) repeat the actions of a partner. On a date, it can manifest, for example, in the fact that he repeats your movements or words, tries to guess your order in a restaurant and orders a similar dish, and so on. He wants to show that he is “in your League”, and it’s suitable for you.

HE TURNS HIS HEAD

If you ask a man a direct question (assuming “yes” or “no”), you can find out the answer by the movement of his head. If he is telling the truth, his head will remain in the same position, but if he tries to hide a positive answer by saying “no”, his chin will involuntarily tilt down (at least slightly). If he tries to lie “yes”, his head will move at least a little to the side, as if imitating the answer “no”. Learn to notice these small movements, at first glance it may seem difficult, but then you will always know more than you’re told.

HE CROSSES HIS ARMS

A warning sign on a date is closed postures. Imagine that you’re in the subway or bus: you want to hide from unwanted attention of strangers, so close your arms or cross your legs, as if in self-defense. The same body language is also relevant for a romantic rendezvous: if a man tries to move away and shut himself off from you, then most likely the meeting is bound to fail.

HE LICKS HIS LIPS AND TOUCHES HIS HAIR

If a man likes you, he will unconsciously fix his hair and touch his lips to hide excitement.

HE ROLLS HIS EYES AND GRIMACES

Please note that if a man reacts strangely to your stories or jokes, namely rolls his eyes, curls his lips in an unnatural half-smile, and may also make sarcastic comments, then it’s better not to repeat such a date. First of all, he might just not like you, and he waits until the date is over. Well, if he claims that everything is fine, then it may be a sign of abusive behavior: he likes to be a little higher than you and your stories. Be careful!

HE SCRATCHES HIS NOSE

Remember this gesture; it has a special meaning for men. If women can touch their noses sweetly when they’re embarrassed or when they just forgot to powder them, then men grab their noses in exceptional cases. The fact is that they have a special excitable zone there, which always itches if they try to hide something.

HE CHANGES THE VOICE

When a man lies, he doesn’t believe it himself, so he tries to be as convincing as possible. One way is to change the voice. For example, he lowers the voice, makes it quiet, insinuating – this tone seems convincing on a subconscious level. Or vice versa – he raises it, speaks loudly, depicting genuine emotions. Another common variant is when he tries to utter a lie as quickly as possible, which results in an unintelligible tongue twister. When you ask him to repeat it, he repeats it at the same pace, that doesn’t make it clear.
